how to downsample a 1D signal using DWPT

I have a signal sampled at 250kHz frequency from a bearing. Consedring a 1 sec signal I want to down sample the signal from 250000 samples to 1024 samples? When I apply inbuilt matlab function dwt i get two variable approximations(A) and details(D). so when get 125000 samples each as it down sampling by level 2. But which of A or D is considered to carry the information of the signal ? one is low pass filtered and another is high pass filtered.
how to down sample the signal?
