Discretize Lines, then Retrieve the New Coordinates and Connectivity?

Hi all,
Supposed I have:
nodes=[ 1 0 0; 2 1 0; 3 1 1; 4 0 1; ] %the original coordinates
link=[ 1 1 2; 2 2 3; 3 3 4; 4 4 1; ] %the original connectivity
This will create a perfect square with 4 nodes connected by 4 links.
Now, how can I discretize the square by adding more nodes into each link? The discretization will create a square with more nodes and links, which correspond to new nodal coordinates and new connectivity. Having that, then how can I retrieve the new coordinates and new connectivity as well?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
