finding the centre of an detected object ?

I've found a demo showing how to draw a boundry with freehand and to calculate the centre of the mask drawn. what i need is to get rid of the free hand drawing and to detect the boundry of an object and find its centre,centroid and area. is it possible ?

There is no question here about MATLAB, just a request for someone to provide additional code and consulting to you, on a purely image processing question.
