shapes of clusters (linkage function)

a question about the linkage function,

the shapes in the page 'Hierarchical Clustering' under linkage are a bit amorphic, and I need to understand it more accurately.

under the default settings, if it clusters point [x0,y0] and [x1,y1] does it draw a circle around them where the center is at the middle point of the two points?
