Can you disable the new update notification

I see that starting with 2018b the user will be notified of bug fixes and updates. In our environment the user CANNOT apply these as they do not have admin rights. So is there a way to globally disable these notifications?
Will it be/is it possible to subscribe, via license manager, to receive emails of these updates/bug fixes?

I was unable to find a solution/answer for this, but I am under the impression this being relevant for multiple companies with release management and IT policies.
Let me reach out to somebody internally at MathWorks and I will come back to you.

Andreas, could you email me too?
Still relevant in 2026.
Can you please send this information to me as well?
Thank you very much.
Same here. It seems bizarre that this has been an unresolved issue for so long.
Eagerly awaiting the 'Disable Update Notifications', along with the '--update' option on mpm.exe!
Few notes: In the last years, I have seen different reasons why users want to disable this. The primary scenario is the IT departments from larger companies want to avoid end users downloading and installing themselves. But most of those organzations are supportive of actually installing the updates as they are cumulative bug fixes and there maybe are security aspects involved. So the solutiion here typically is to quickly install updates on the organizational level so the notification is not even a problem.
So one question to the users in this thread is whether you plan to install the updates and how.
For those who make a concisous decision to not install an Update, your annoyance about the notification may depend on your OS, the MATLAB release and the IT infrastructure. E.g. notification on current releases on Windows is just a different color of the bell icon top right and I wonder if this is your concern or you see somerthing else. I have heard about a pop-up notiifcation running MATLAB on Linux, but it was an unsupported Linux on some cluster environment.
