Replace several occurrence of one string with multiple different strings using regexprep without a for loop

How can I replace several occurrence of one string with multiple different strings?
I would like to use regexprep without using a for loop.
For example, in this string, I would like to replace the first "XXX" with "ALPHA" and the second "XXX" with "BETA"
string = '2*sin(XXX)+XXX'
I would try these (which none obviously works)
string = regexprep(string,'XXX' , {'ALPHA','BETA'})
string = regexprep(string,{'XXX','XXX'}, {'ALPHA','BETA'})

string = regexprep('2*sin(XXX)+XXX','XXX',{'ALPHA','BETA'},[1,2])
