Using Matlab to interface with Microsoft Azure Kinect?

I just purchased the new (as of summer 2019) Microsoft Azure Kinect, and we're contemplating using it to do object recognition. An example would be to detect the distance/angle to a round object like a tire. I have some Matlab experience, but I'm a rookie with the Kinect stuff. Anyone have examples or a good tutorial on:
  1. Interfacing to the new Azure Kinect using Matlab
  2. Doing object recognition/location from the Kinect's data using Matlab

We made it through ROS. It works but need extra software, not easy to configure.
