Arduino Freezing Matlab Code

I'm trying to use arduino on Matlab. I have the arduino support package and it tells me that the arduino is detected when I plug it in my computer but whenever I run the code a = arduino() Matlab gets stuck and the only way to stop it is to close Matlab and open again. Even if i run the code in the command prompt to find the port the Arduino is in it does the same thing. I have used the arduino on this computer before and it has worked so I dont know what to do and what the problem is. Thanks!

Did you end up figuring this out? I am TAing a course and a student is having the same issue, but we can't figure out why. Thanks!
