Hi, i'm trying to frequency modulate an arbitary input wav file with a periodic wave. I was wondering how to do this because basic maths for frequency modulation depends on simple sine waves and i'm trying to modulate a non periodic complex waveform?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If simulink is an option, the FM Modulator Passband will do the trick.
If you have the communications toolbox, you can use the FMMOD function.
You could also consider this file exchange submission.
This is assuming that you've already imported the WAV file into MATLAB. If not, use wavread to do this.

what if the audio file's content was no periodic, is it possible to FM modulate it?

when .wav is one-channel (not stereo):
[x fs]=wavread('NonPeriodic.wav');
Fc=1e6; % carrier = 1MHz
FS=2.2*Fc; % sampling frequency for output signal
deviation=75e3; % freq. deviation
smod=fmmod(x, Fc, FS, deviation);
