How to create a stacked bar out of two separate bar charts (Datasets)?

Hi everyone,

I have two 5x6 data available. At the moment, it is being plotted as the following but how can I make them stacked?

Right now I am concating data using > Concat = [Data1;Data2] and then I use > bar(Concat). It does not work with bar(concat, 'stacked') I tried to concat them using horizontal version but that does not work too.

First, don't use function names (e.g., concat) as variable names. You used Concat as a variable in one part of your question and concat in another part. Neither is a good idea.

Having said that, it's not clear to me what the problem is or exactly what you are trying to achieve. Here's what I get when I recreate what I think you have tried:

Data1 = rand(5,6);
Data2 = rand(5,6);
Cnct = [Data1; Data2];
bar(Cnct,'stacked');

But, this graph is very different from what you posted. The issue might be with your use of concat as a variable name, but you didn't post any code, so it's hard to say. So... Please post your code and clarify exactly what you are aiming for.

@Scott MacKenzie oh thanks for that tip! :D I didn't know that. Yeah technically, it created what you created when I used the stack option too but it's not exatly what I want. In the graph, there are 6 major categories and each category includes 5 data. This is for two years which results in a total 12 major. What I want is that each data in each category for these two years be stacked on top of each other. So, there will be a total 6 amjor categories and each category includes 5 data from the first year and then 5 data for the second year on top of them. Each bar will consist of only two data. I didn't know how to do it but I thought maybe if stack doesn't work, I might be able to sum the second data series with the first one and just use bar alone but if stack could work, that would be much better!

You may add some dummy data to separate each group.

However, the XTick may not be consistent with your data and hence I remove it in the following figure.

by the way, is ther eany option to keep the color scheme the same as in my chart?

You may try the following code, but noticed that the XTick is not consistent with your data since there are additional dummy data.

Data1 = round(100*rand(5,6));                                       % Your data Data1
Data2 = round(100*rand(5,6));                                       % Your data Data2
dummy = zeros(5,6);                                                 % Dummy data
Data1_extend = vertcat(Data1,dummy);                                
Data2_extend = vertcat(Data2,dummy);
Data_combine = horzcat(Data1_extend(:), Data2_extend(:));
bar(Data_combine,'stacked');
f = gcf;
f.Children.XTick='';                                                % Remove XTick

Not good at setting colors on bar chart, may be someone provide the solution about that.

What are the data type of your 5x6 data?

Did you just try to run my code alone and getting the same error?
