MATLAB Central Community Contest 2022 Descriptions, Rules, and Terms

There are two MATLAB Central community contests in 2022:

  • MATLAB Mini Hack 2022
  • Cody 10th Anniversary

To enter either contest, you must have a MathWorks Account. If you do not have a MathWorks Account, you can create one at MathWorks sign in. No purchase is necessary to enter the contest.

The rules and terms described within govern your participation in the MATLAB Central community contests in 2022.


Contests 

1. MATLAB Mini Hack 2022

How to participate

Use up to 280 characters to render an interesting image.

Timeframe

his contest runs for one month. It begins on October 3rd, 2022 at 00:00:00 am Eastern Time and ends on October 30th, 2022 at 11:59:59 pm Eastern Time.

Rules

  • Each entry must contain MATLAB code and a generated plot. The plot must be created using the run feature in the online editor.
  • You might be allowed to use functions from File Exchange entries and/or certain MathWorks toolboxes in different weeks.
  • The first week (October 3rd, 2022 ~ October 9th, 2022) is for creating entries only. Voting does not begin until the second week
  • After you submit an entry, you may NOT edit that entry. If you want to make changes, simply remix your own entry to generate a new one.
  • You may delete an existing entry. Note that you will lose all the points, votes, and remixes from a deleted entry.
  • You can only vote one time per entry, but you can vote on as many entries as you would like.

Prizes

  • Amazon gift card. The top 10 participants on the leaderboard will each get a gift card.  The leaderboard is ranked by the most voted entry.
  • 1st place: $300
  • 2nd place: $200
  • 3rd place: $100
  • 4th through 10th place: $50 gift card each
  • MathWorks T-shirts. Each week, we will give out MathWorks T-shirts to authors who create interesting images. 
  • Virtual badge. If you create an entry, you will get a Mini Hack 2022 badge.

Note: MathWorks staff can participate in the contests but are not eligible for prizes except for the virtual badge.

After the contest ends, MathWorks will review the submissions to determine the winners.


2. Cody 10th Anniversary

How to participate 

Register for the contest and solve at least 1 Cody problem per day during the contest period.

Timeframe

This contest runs for one month. It begins on October 3rd, 2022 at 00:00:00 am UTC Time and ends on October 30th, 2022 at 11:59:59 pm UTC Time.

Rules

  • You can choose to solve any problem you have not solved before. The leaderboard is ranked by the longest streak of days of problem-solving. For example, if you solve at least 1 problem each day for 10 consecutive days, your streak of days is 10.
  • When there is a tie on the leaderboard, the ranking will be decided by the total number of problems a participant solves during the contest period.

Prizes

  • Overall contest winners. The top 10 participants on the leaderboard will each win an Amazon gift card.
    • 1st place: $200
    • 2nd place: $100
    • 3rd place: $50
    • 4th through 10th place: $25 gift card each
  • Weekly winners. Each week, the top 3 participants who solved the most problems will each win an Amazon gift card.
    • 1st place: $50; 
    • 2nd place: $25; 
    • 3rd place: $10. 
  • MathWorks T-shirts. Each week, we will give out 2 MathWorks T-shirts to participants who solve a Cody problem.  
  • Virtual badge. If you have a streak of 10 days or more, you will earn a Cody 10th badge.

Terms and Conditions

MathWorks reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to modify or terminate the contest(s) for any reason, including in the event of any act or occurrence that it believes would corrupt the integrity, administration, or fairness of the contest(s). MathWorks is not responsible for lost, late, stolen, incomplete, illegible, inaccurate, undelivered, delayed, or misdirected entries. By participating in the contest(s), you agree to release, discharge, and hold harmless MathWorks, its respective affiliates, and any individuals engaged in the development or execution of the contest(s), from any liability, claims, losses, and damages arising out of or related to your participation in the contest(s) or the acceptance, use, misuse, or possession of any prize received in the contest(s). MathWorks collects personal information from you when you enter the contest(s). The information collected is subject to the Privacy Policy. Should you be selected as a winner and/or to receive a prize, you hereby authorize MathWorks to identify you as such, on websites owned by or affiliated with MathWorks, as well as certain other third party websites and/or applications. All taxes, fees, and surcharges on any prizes won are the sole responsibility of the recipients of such prizes.

You will continue to own any applicable intellectual property rights in your submissions, but by entering a submission, you grant to MathWorks a perpetual, worldwide royalty-free license to, without limitation, post the textual descriptions of the submissions on any website owned by or affiliated with MathWorks. Once you enter a submission, the submission cannot be modified in any way until after the judging period is complete.

You also agree to provide your submission directly to MathWorks, and grant to MathWorks a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, copy, modify, distribute, and license others to use, copy, modify, and distribute your submission, or any portion thereof, for any and all MathWorks promotional purposes, on any and all media, in any and all formats, and via any and all modes of transmission, distribution, or dissemination, whether now known or hereafter developed. Nothing herein shall obligate MathWorks to exercise these rights. You hereby waive any right of inspection or approval of the uses to which the submission may be put. You grant the judges the right to use your submission for the purposes of judging this Competition.

You warrant and represent that: (1) you are of eighteen (18) years of age or older, and have the capacity to enter into this agreement; (2) you are not an employee of MathWorks; (3) you have full right, power, and authority to grant these rights and permissions; and (4) your submission a) is original; b) is solely owned by you so that no other party has any rights or interest in the submission, whether known or unknown; and c) does not violate the intellectual property, common law, or any rights of any third parties. You agree that these Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and MathWorks, and supersedes all prior communications and/or understandings, whether written or oral, pertaining hereto. You agree that this agreement will be governed by and construed under and in accordance with the laws of Massachusetts. The contest(s) are void where prohibited. The contest(s) are promoted by The MathWorks, Inc., 3 Apple Hill Drive, Natick, MA 01760-2098. Proof of purchase is not required, and purchase will not improve your chance of winning.
