How to read .dat files in matlab?

how to check encoding standard of .dat files. I have some .dat files containing ECG data generated from qrs card of Pulse Biomedical Inc.I want to read those .dat files in matlab.

Need to know the format from the vendor...they should provide documentation and examples of using their data files with alternate analysis tools. This really isn't Matlab question, at least until after the above information is provided...

I looked through the documentation and could find nothing on either the file format or the ability to export the file to formats readable in other applications.
See if you can print out the first 50 or so lines from the file. If you can actually read it (meaning that it is an ASCII file), attach the file here.
Otherwise, contact Pulse Biomedical at: <mailto:Info@qrscard.com Info@qrscard.com> and ask them how best to read it into MATLAB or export it into an ASCII file.
